Three gentlemen are on horseback, riding through the Sahara desert in front of the great pyramids of giza. Egyptians and Berber tribesmen have been using camels and horses to travel through the Sahara for generations. This desert, which is the largest in the world, stretches from the eastern to the western borders of the African continent. It gets brutally cold at night.

Stonetown, Zanzibar, Tanzania

Statues in remberance of the once Slave Market in Zanzibar, which was the primary site from which slaves were taken in eastern Africa. Nearby was the actual holding quarters where they were held. A catholic church was built over where the auction area was. After slavery was abolished, they moved the market 30 minutes north to operate out of a cave until that was discovered and closed down.

As I left dinner with a hostel roomate, we literally turned a corner and found ourselves staring at a ton of the only dark skinned people we've seen in Israel. The sign “Black Lives Matter” was the first thing I saw to rationalize what I was seeing. The Ethiopians in Israel explained to me that they are continuously discriminated against, since being brought to Israel during the Ethiopian famine of the 90's.

Luang Prabang, Laos

The youngest of the Buddhist monks awaken before sunrise every morning and patrol the streets to collect donations of sticky rice and money from the townspeople. In exchange, the townspeople receive special blessings. Often families who cannot afford all their children, may push one into the priesthood so therefore they are no longer responsible for caring for them.

An Ethiopian woman of the Tigray tribe carries her son as she goes about her daily routine. This method of caring for children has been done for centuries as women carried out their daily routines, undisturbed! This area in the hills of Ethiopia gets pretty chilly as it is a high elevation region.
