The youngest of the Buddhist monks awaken before sunrise every morning and patrol the streets to collect donations of sticky rice and money from the townspeople. In exchange, the townspeople receive special blessings. Often families who cannot afford all their children, may push one into the priesthood so therefore they are no longer responsible for caring for them.
